Abstract

We aim to identify more sustainable piezoelectric materials by exploring multielement AlN-based nitrides. ScAlN is currently one of the most widely used piezoelectric nitride materials, but recent density functional theory (DFT) studies suggest that other ternary nitrides, such as TiAlN, may also exhibit promising piezoelectric properties. Building on these findings, we will systematically investigate multielement nitride alloys derived from known promising systems, including ScAlN and AlTiN. By progressively combining elements such as Sc and Ti within the AlN framework, we will examine how composition affects structural stability and piezoelectric response. This work will provide a computational route toward the prediction and design of new nitride-based piezoelectric materials with reduced reliance on critical elements.
