Abstract

This project develops and tests formulations for topology optimization aimed at minimum weight with stiffness and fatigue constraints. Topology optimization can require 100s of finite element analyses for a single design. It is thus computationally costly and requires HPCs to achieve results with sufficient resolution to be of practical interest. The project is part of a research project in which we develop methods to analyze and optimize fatigue properties of structures manufactured using laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing with titanium powder. The project will be carried our mainly by 5th year undergraduate students supervised by the applicant.
