Abstract

This project extends previous research on the remote drivers of Pan-Atlantic winter compound events. Prior studies highlighted the Alaskan Ridge's role as a crucial precursor to extreme cold temperatures in North America, often observed before extreme wind and precipitation anomalies impact Europe. Here, we aim to deepen our understanding of these remote influences, particularly focusing on Rossby waves originating in both tropical and extratropical regions. Our findings could considerably enhance the predictability of the aforementioned surface extreme events.
