Abstract
This project will be used for simulating and optimizing parameters for mathematical models in various master's theses, bachelor's, and other undergraduate projects. These projects have different biological research questions, but all use systems biology methods. Typically, ODE-based models are created to test hypotheses of the mechanisms of the biological system in question. Then, to test the hypothesis, the simulations from the models are compared to data, and the parameters in the models are optimized to reduce the difference between the simulations and the data. This optimization process requires repeated and parallelizable model simulations and evaluations, which in some cases can take days on a normal laptop but can be significantly sped up by splitting it into several nodes on Sigma.
