Abstract

The project consists in evaluating the capabilities of a multi-pump hydraulic system for heavy machinery. The system can contain two or more pumps that can be used to operate one or more actuators. The connection between pumps and actuators is done through a matrix of on/off valves, and the pumps' speeds can vary continuously between the minimum and maximum values. This leads to a higher number of ways to operate the system, thus the goal of the project is to determine which are the possible ways to operate the system for different actuators' speeds and forces. The current proposal consists of using a genetic algorithm to find the optimal operating points for the system for each combination of actuator speed and force. Since the cost function includes multiple local minima, each combination is analysed multiple times to better determine the possible solutions. This analysis aims to identify a smaller set of valves' signals and pumps' speeds that can effectively be used to control the system.
