Abstract
Increasing the aerodynamic efficiency for a Formula Student car is essential to decrease lap
time. This work will investigate the aero package of LiU Formula Student’s car and how
higher downforce and lower drag can be achieved with manufacturing techniques used by
LiU Formula Student. This will be achieved by optimizing wing shapes and adjusting their
position while redesigning the aerodynamic package of the car using CFD (Computational
Fluid Dynamics). The car will be simulated in steady state, in different roll, yaw, and pitch
conditions to ensure that the car performs well under cornering and braking. In order to
achieve a good aero package a lot of iterations have to be simulated to understand what
kind of designs work or not. Initial setup of the car will be done using steady state
simulations and transient simulations might be done to get a more detailed understanding of
the design. This work will be carried out for the course TMPP02.
