LiU-course: Project Course in Applied Physics, CDIO TFYA99
Abstract
TFYA99 is an undergraduate project course given for, primarily, civil engineering program students at the very end of their education. It offers a computational project run for 1-2 small student groups. The course runs all of HT2024 (which includes some time into January). The students doing the computational project in this course develop a molecular dynamics code and run it on a fairly large data set. Last year the students performed these runs on Sigma using allocation LiU-compute-2023-32.
This year we have 2 project group with in total 9 students.
Total resource usage is quite limited, but depends on the number of students and their skills. Last year with 6 students we used only 2.6 % of the allocation of 1 kcore-h/month. However, the year before that we used ~ 50% of 1 kcore-h/month.
Since the course is already ongoing, it would be convenient if the project can start as soon as possible already in September, but at least October 1 if possible? (I apologize for the short notice). I suggest a quota of 1 kcore-h/month for Oct 2022 - Jan 2023 but would also be ok with stricter limits if necessary. I've marked the duration to be 5 months for the absolute maximum length to be (what is left of) Sept - Jan inclusive.
