Abstract

Land-use changes is a major driver of global biodiversity loss. This includes loss of insect abundance, and therefore declining quality pollnation services for both wild plants and economically valuable crops. However, some insects have the potential for rapid evolution, which might help them to cope with such land-use changes. These evolutionary responses may, in turn, change the pollinator's ecological function with positive or negative consequences to other species. In this project, I use computer simulations to investigate how land-use-change-induced evolutionary responses of pollinating insects propagate through the plant-pollinator ecological network, and how these responses eventually influence the quality of pollination services.
