Abstract

Sometimes, cold spells over North America co-occur with winter storms over Europe. These Pan-Atlantic cold, wet and windy compound extremes exhibit unique atmospheric dynamics. My aim is to investigate relationships of different atmospheric fields during these extremes to gain a better understanding of the typical atmospheric behavior. This includes defining extreme events and analyzing composites and applications of small models running tailored experiments. This is part of the project CENAE (An ERC Starting Grant on compound Climate Extremes in North America and Europe).
