Abstract

The most advanced and capable occupant protection assessment tool is a human body model (HBM), with active muscle control. Modelling the human body in detail gives more humanlike behaviour than crash test dummies, enabling omnidirectional injury prediction. The active muscle control allows prediction of occupant kinematics in low-g situations, such as braking or avoidance manoeuvres. Within this research project the SAFER HBM will be enhanced with the overall goal to be capable of predicting occupant response in any combinations of low g and high-g loading, ultimately including complex crash events such as run-off road and rollover. In this simulation project a parameter study on the effect of pelvis geometry on belt retention will be carried out.
