Abstract

In order to take over their bacterial host, viruses called bacteriophages have to enter the bacterial cell and take over the host molecular information processing machinery for their own benefit. Through its immune system, the bacterial host tries to resist this attack, while the phage fights back via counter defence systems. This warfare involves a multitude of molecular interactions. We are interested in predicting those interactions that occur at the protein level. Protein co-folding with AlphaFold-Multimer is a powerful approach for making these predictions, which we will validate experimentally.
