Abstract

The aim of this project is uncover the molecular mechanisms of newly reported drugs by us and phenotypes of a fish pathogen called Saprolegnia parasitica which is not studies at molecular level before. Saprolegniales is the fish disease caused by Saprolegnia parasitica which was previously contained by using malachite green. However, malachite being carcinogenic, have been banned to be used for this purpose. The sparolegniales is again a serious problem for fisheries and claiming loss of millions of dollars worldwide. We have already identified five new drugs which are effective against Saprolegnia. In order to investigate their mechanism of action and over all transcriptomic profile of these drugs, transcriptomic analyses have to be performed. These analyses required high computational and storage resources to process the large amount of next generation sequencing (NGS) data being produced by performing RNA-seq. Later in this project we also plan to run short RNAs sequencing projects and sequencing projects including RNA-seq, short-RNAs and bisulphite sequencing, for the isogenic knock-out and knock-in models, created for target genes in Saprolegnia parasitica to elucidate the molecular mechanism behind observed phenotypes.
