Abstract

Under the purview of the EU Horizon 2020 funded project HoliSoils, we aim to gain an understanding of how diverse microbial communities influence carbon consumption in European forest soils. We undertake this task by analyzing large scale environmental datasets. Also, we plan to carry out numerical simulations to analyze even a wider variety of scenarios. We estimate that we will need to carry out ~100,000 simulations for this project in order to develop a holistic understanding of the interaction between microbial diversity and soil functions. Thus, we require additional computing resources hosted by the National Supercomputing Centre.
