Abstract

Ships and marine floating structures are subject to complex environmental loads. The interaction between ship, water and also ice influences ship performance such as motions, resistance and fuel consumption. The dynamic loads on ships result in resonance and vibrations in the ship hull structure, which affects the ship safety as well as local structural strength. The fluid-ice-structure interaction is also of our interests for it determines the integrity of structural hull details as well as propeller integrity. The analyses of sophisticated mathematical models of wave and ice, comprehensive structural details as well as fluid-ice-structure interaction all require high-fidelity numerical simulations. The simulation results are the key data for ship performance evaluation. We apply thus computation capacities to carry out research activities in this topic.
