Abstract

This proposal contains a large-level request for computer time on high-performance computing (HPC) resources within the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC). We list the projects by the Multiphase flows research group at Chalmers University of Technology (Prof. Sasic, Assoc. Profs. Ström and Sardina, Dr Maggiolo). The group also consists of six PhD students and six postdocs (+2 new persons under recruitment). Many projects involve collaboration with Fraunhofer-Chalmers Research Centre (FCC) and in particular with the Department of Computational and Design (Docent Andreas Mark). Our research portfolio focuses on numerical modelling of complex multiphase systems in different industrial and environmental fields, covering a huge scale separation from soot particles at the nanoscale up to kilometres of an urban area. We briefly summarize 16 research projects that rely on HPC resources. Many researchers contribute to and are involved in several projects. We actively collaborate to improve our HPC experience, sharing simulation methods, codes and user experience. The projects are divided into three different macro-areas, corresponding to a variety of research topics investigated in our group: (1) Complex transport phenomena in porous media. (2) Single- and Multiphase flows, including heat/mass transfer and phase changes. (3) Reactive flows and combustion.
