Abstract

In order to understand better the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation (DBS), we are conducting a study using data from 60 patients who had DBS implantation surgery. One step of this analysis is the transformation of the anatomy of each patient to create an average anatomy representing the group. This is done based on preoperative MRI data, and uses non-linear image registration in order to successively fuse all patients to a reference that is then updated. This process is extremely compute intensive is becoming a bottleneck in the current study.
