Abstract

In this project, which is supported by Carl Trygger’s foundation, I am synthesizing and investigating peptides incorporating a new type of fluorescent probe. The aim of the bioinspired probe is to provide new means of transforming peptides and studying, for instance, their distribution in cells, interactions with target biomolecules, and molecular organization using fluorescence-based techniques. Conformational analysis of peptides incorporating the probe will be used to get insight into the accessible conformational space and the preferred conformations. To investigate the dynamic behavior of a few probe containing peptides in solution and in membrane environment, molecular dynamics simulations will be performed. Other molecular properties of importance will be calculated and/or predicted using Jaguar, Epik and QikProp. The knowledge gained from the computational studies will be used in the structural optimization of the probe, and in the design of probe containing peptides for life science applications.
