Abstract

This project aims numerical simulation of Deep Green tidal power plant, developed by Minesto, and how an array of these power plants can be described. It is about time to arrange these power plants in tidal power arrays in order to generate power in a cost efficient way. An efficient array configuration is hereby crucial for a developer or a power utility. In this project we will use code developed in an earlier project funded by Swedish Energy Agency, and supported by SNIC. This code describe how a single Deep Green influences the tidal flow. Here we will extend this work to investigate how an array of Deep Green will impact on each other. How much lower will the power extraction be, and how much stronger will turbulence forces be on downstream Deep Green. Can we find a rule of thumb how to optimize parks of Deep Green? The underlying project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten), and runs over 4.5 years. The present project is in principle an extension of the Large scale project SNIC 2018-1-40, which started in July 2018. The main aim is to • Quantify how turbulence influence the design of parks of Deep Green tidal power plants. Secondary aims are • Developing code that extend existing code to include several Deep Green power plant. • Investigate how various configuration of Deep Green give interaction between Deep Green and turbulence fields. • Refine existing model with respect to Deep Green model formulation and impact of grid resolution.
