Abstract

Cross slip of screw dislocations is a fundamental process in plastic deformation in, for example, Ni system. The cross slip plays a significant role during deformation process through annihilation and entanglement. In austenitic steels, the cross slip is found to be hindered by carbon alloying thus planar slip is enhanced instead. Therefore, I would like to study the interaction mechanism between carbon and screw dislocations by calculating the activation energy of cross slip with the presence of carbon, and uncover the carbon effect on the cross slip process.
