Abstract

This project was initiated to implement new computational strategies for mapping Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL). Parallel computing has been implemented and new software developed for the analyses. In total this has led to a total increase in performance of the software with appr. 300 times as compared to the standard software we used previously. The current version of the software scales well, with a relative increase in performance of for 25 processors. The performance of the software is between 80 and 114 MFlops for alternate problemsizes on a single processor on the Cray T3E. The collection of genetic and phenotypic data for two large chicken populations will be finished in early may 2001 and the analyses of these data will then be initiated. The time applied for will be used to analyse these datasets.
