Abstract

Increasing the aerodynamic efficiency for a Formula Student car is essential to decrease lap time. This work will investigate the aero package of LiU Formula Student’s car and how higher downforce and lower drag can be achieved with manufacturing techniques used by LiU Formula Student. This will be achieved by optimizing wing shapes and adjusting their position as well as developing a new diffuser and front wing using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). The car will be simulated in steady state, roll and yawning to ensure that the car performs well under cornering and braking. Initial setup of the car will be done using steady state simulations and transient simulations will be done to refine the design. This work will be carried out for the course TMPP02.
