Abstract

In the context of deep geological disposal of used nuclear fuel, the decay heat generated in the fuel assemblies is an important safety parameter. A method have been developed that can determine the decay heat using measurements of the emitted gamma radiation. For the proposed method, a large set of Monte Carlo calculations must be performed regarding the transport of gamma radiation from the fuel to the detector. The results of the calculations are vital for the functionality of the method. This proposal is intended for a continuation of a currently running project (SNIC 2015/1-451) where the planned calculations are to be continued.
