Mesoscale modelling for icing of wind turbines
Abstract
The objective is to optimize the skill of the models to calculate icing and production losses for wind turbines operating in icing conditions.
Methods to assess uncertainties in icing calculations will be developed. A PhD student will work specifically on
uncertainties of the constituent processes, quantification of them and for coupling to ensemble forecasts.
Uncertainties in icing estimates will be quantified. Meteorological ensemble-forecasts will be based upon different model schemes, perturbations of the parameterization of the physics and perturbations of the boundary conditions. A PhD student will do research on uncertainties of the included processes, to quantify them and coupling to ensemble forecasts. In addition uncertainties regarding production losses will be quantified by using ensemble forecasts as input to statistical production loss models.
