Abstract

Experimental and theoretical works are carried out in a new field of Plasma Assisted Combustion. Obtained experimental data will be used for designs and validation of computer simulation models and will also enable design of a functional prototype of plasma device for more powerful and cleaner combustion, particularly in gas turbines. The project is related to plasma science and combustion technology. The program involves both experimental and theoretical research related to the interaction of the plasma with the flame, to stabilization of flame, to affecting the temperature distribution in the flame and to reduction of emissions from the combustion. Thus, it is indispensable to know the flow pattern, temperature distribution and the size, shape and position of the recirculation zones in order to characterize the flame and also identify the correlation that could minimize NOx emission production. The requirements between efficiency and emissions are achieved when the device set up provides an appropriate fuel-air mixture, the stability of the flame and low NOx emissions.
